FLORIDA FORM HSMV 82042 · MOBILE

Mobile VIN verification
in Fort Lauderdale.

Moving to Florida with a car, or buying a used vehicle that isn't titled in Florida? I'll come to your driveway, office or lot and complete the VIN and odometer verification on form HSMV 82042, so you can complete the VIN inspection at your location. Title and registration submission to the tax collector is still required.

WHAT I DO

Physical inspection

I physically inspect the VIN under the windshield and in the door jamb, compare it with the form, and sign and seal Part B as a Florida notary. The owner completes the vehicle affidavit and odometer declaration in Part A; this visit does not complete title or registration processing.

ALSO AVAILABLE

Related paperwork

At the same visit, I can notarize other motor-vehicle documents that need a notarized signature, such as a seller's affidavit or a vehicle power of attorney you've already completed.

PRICING

From $75 within 10 miles

$10 per vehicle + travel by zone ($65 / $80 / $100 / $125). Fleets, dealers and multi-vehicle households pay $10 for each additional vehicle at the same stop.

VIN QUESTIONS

Florida VIN
verification questions.

Who needs a Florida VIN verification?

Florida requires form HSMV 82042 for used motor vehicles, and trailers weighing 2,000 pounds or more, that aren't currently titled in Florida, such as a car you're bringing from another state or bought from an out-of-state seller.

Can a notary really do a VIN verification?

Yes. Florida authorizes a Florida notary public, along with licensed dealers, law enforcement and tax collector or DMV examiners, to physically inspect the vehicle and complete Part B of form HSMV 82042.

Can it be done online?

No. The verifier must physically inspect the VIN on the vehicle, under the windshield and in the door jamb, so this is always an in-person visit. The vehicle must be in Florida.

What should I have ready?

The vehicle, unlocked with the doors able to open, plus the title or registration and your photo ID. A printed HSMV 82042 is helpful, but I can bring one.

How much does it cost?

$10 per vehicle plus the travel fee for your zone. For example, one vehicle within 10 one-way driving miles of central Fort Lauderdale is $75. Additional vehicles at the same stop are $10 each.
